Posted in: ,

After almost 15 years, there's a new D'Angelo album out, and it's titled #BlackMessiah. For lovers of R&B and soul like me, this is great news! I loved D'Angelo before and I'm loving him now. It's like rolling back the years, but the sound is still fresh and moving.

D'Angelo began to tease his fans about the release of Black Messiah on Friday with a 15-second video, then he released a single off the album titled "Sugah Daddy" on Saturday. On Sunday, there was a New York City listening party on Sunday, all leading up to Black Messiah being released on iTunes and Spotify at midnight into Monday.

Book Review - The Land of Honey By Chinenye Obiajulu

Posted in: , , , ,

I was quite motivated to get into 'The of Land of Honey' by Chinenye Obiajulu after reading from the blurb that it was about the life of recent Nigerian immigrants to Canada, since I haven't come across much writing about this. And it turned out to be a very enjoyable read.

Savvy Showman - Dbanj Presents DKM D' Kings Men Reviewed in the New York Times

Posted in: , ,

From the New York Times Music Playlist Reviews page

D’Banj
D’BANJ PRESENTS DKM (D’ KING’S MEN)

D’Banj is one of the great African pop stars of the past decade, a charming singer but, more important, a savvy showman. For years, this Nigerian singer was at the center of the Mo’ Hits Records stable, but now he’s struck out on his own with a new label and the compilation “D’Banj Presents DKM (D’ King’s Men)” (DB/G.O.O.D./Sony). It’s an alluring contemporary pop album with an emphasis on king-size dance music, like the militarily efficient “Don’t Tell Me Nonsense” and the flash of last year’s excellent smash hit “Oliver Twist.” D’Banj is also a savvy synthesizer of the old and new Africa, as on “Nous les Meilleurs (We the Best),” a duet with the Congolese singer Fally Ipupa. But really, D’Banj has his eye on the world; he’s signed to Kanye West’s G.O.O.D. Music imprint, and the lovely “Scape Goat (The Fix)” features what’s certainly the most cheerful version of Mr. West you’ll hear this year, or any year.

The Body Glove Toughsuit Phone Case - Reviews

Posted in: , ,
My Samsung Galaxy S3 in the Body Glove Mobile
When I got my phone, the store rep emphasized to me how delicate the SIII screen is and how the large surface area makes it even more liable to being crushed. True to his word, the phone screen cracked within a couple of months, and I spent over $300 to repair it. So I was really on the lookout for a sturdier phone case to protect the quite expensive phone. This review is sponsored by the Body Glove Mobile online store who sent me a free toughsuit phone case for my Samsung Galaxy SIII.

The tough suit protection of this body glove phone case is made up of four parts:

- A transparent plastic sheet which protects the phone's glass front;
- A hard shell which protects the back, and which extends beyond the phone's front;
- A gel case which adds more protection to the front and back;
- A hard plastic holder which allows you to attach the phone to a belt

Fast Grow Hair Growth Oil - Product Review

Posted in: , , , , ,

Since my big chop, my hair has been growing, but like I mentioned in my hair journey so far, not as fast as I expected it to. And definitely not as fast as I want it to. Some say healthy hair should grow about half an inch every month, if that is the case, then I'm right and though my hair has made good progress, it still has a ways to go.

Around the time I started researching better hair products than the one I had been using was when I was contacted by Sunset Hair to try out some of their Exotic Allure products.

From their website before I accepted to try the products, I found that the Exotic Allure Hair Growth products were specifically formulated to help promote fast, healthy hair growth by reducing hair breakage and shedding. It can be used for both relaxed or natural hair, and can be out on hair when wet and also while dry. For those with dry, flaky, itchy or inflamed Scalp, the oil supposedly helps too. I agreed to do the review and soon received the Fast Hair Grow Oil and Black Hair Vitamin.

Hope Springs review and Blu-ray Giveaway

Posted in: , , , , , ,

Hope Springs was billed as a comedy that tackles issues of marriage, and seeing that the main actors, Meryl Streep and Tommy Lee Jones are favorites of ours, we decided to go see it. The movie, which is out on DVD and Blu-ray this week, turned out to be more serious, a mixture of comedy and drama and a very touching one at that.

Kay (Meryl Streep) and Arnold (Tommy Lee Jones) are a devoted couple, but decades of marriage have left Kay wanting to spice things up and reconnect with her husband. When she hears of a renowned couple's specialist (Steve Carell) in the small town of Great Hope Springs, ME, she attempts to persuade her skeptical husband, a steadfast man of routine, to get on a plane for a week of marriage therapy.

Just convincing the stubborn Arnold to go on the retreat is hard enough—the real challenge for both of them comes as they shed their bedroom hang-ups and try to rekindle the spark that caused them to fall for each other in the first place.

Water Carafe from Uncommon Goods - Review

Posted in: , , ,

Christmas is around the corner and it is time some of us begin to wonder what gifts to buy for others, or even for ourselves. Recently, I took part in the UncommonGoods Product Review Program and requested for a couple of products, a drinks Carafe and an alphabet necklace.

First off, the site was easy to navigate and I was able to browse around and find what interested me. I was also impressed when they arrived within a couple of days of putting in my request. I was interested in doing the review because I was first intrigued by the name, Uncommon Goods, and when I checked out the website I liked the variety they offered to shoppers with the wide selection of both regular and quirky gifts.

There are products available for both children and adults, and even Atala for whom it is very difficult to find gifts liked several things on the site. So, while navigating the site was easy, selecting the gifts to request was quite difficult. Why? Because there are so many really good looking and interesting products to choose from.

My Review of the Samsung Galaxy S3

Posted in: , ,

Who remembers this post asking about the Galaxy SIII or the Galaxy Note? So I got to the AT&T store and the rep and I hashed it all out about what I liked about each of the phones and what he didn't like about each of them. I've now had my Galaxy SIII for about two months and I want to share my experience of the phone with others who may be thinking of getting it. My first smartphone was a BlackBerry which I used for over 2 years so my review will be based off of that.

The main thing I like about my SIII is that it is so slim and very light compared to my BB Torch which was quite bulky and heavy. The next up is the screen size, which is amazing. I thought the Torch was big, this is an eye-opener, I browse on it so comfortably and can do almost everything including blogging and the accompanying rounds and comments. My laptop has definitely been getting more rest than it's ever had.

Also, the video playback quality are excellent. The first time I watched a Youtube video, I was like, wow! The crisp sound and image quality blew me away. I never thought phones could play video, and I couldn't understand when people talked about watching TV or movies on their phone. I never tried it on the BB. I was also surprised that video didn't gulp as much data as I feared.

Kranich's Jewelers Review

Posted in: , , ,

A few days ago, I got some packages in the mail and one of them was from Kranich's Jewelers. I had been discussing with them and so was expecting the package, but it's always nice to get a gift. The hard-working people over at Kranich’s had sent me a lovely Penn State wristwatch.

Dove Intensive Repair Daily Treatment Conditioner

Posted in: , , , ,

I am usually leery of hair products that are not specifically marked for ethnic or African hair so I almost turned down the opportunity to review the Dove Intensive Repair Daily Treatment Conditioner. However, my dove body wash has been making my skin really happy for the past few weeks, so I decided to give the hair conditioner a try. So far, I'm glad I did.

The Fresh Scent of Tide Plus Bleach Alternative

Posted in: , , ,

Around these parts, Atala is one in charge of laundry. He decides on the detergents to use and sorts and loads the clothes in the washer. I sometimes help to unload, put in the dryer, fold away, that sort of thing. I couldn't help noticing when some weeks ago when I was folding some of my light-colored clothes that they looked brighter and so I asked. Turns out, he picked up a new detergent for the light colors since our supermarket had run out of our usual brand. The new one was the Tide Plus Bleach Alternative.

Review of Mylife.com Social Networking Site

Posted in: , , , ,

Mylife.com started out as Reunion.com, a popular social networking site that was one of the first of its kind on the Internet. Since then, things have changed a lot, and in my opinion as someone who uses most of such sites, a lot of those changes are for the better.

Dove® VisibleCare™ Toning Crème Body Wash Review

Posted in: , , , ,

In the past few years I have had to be more intentional in taking care of my skin since I had a case of sun burn after my first visit to a beach here in the United States. I have to be very selective in the products I use, not just for my face, but also for my skin. I want products, creams, lotions, and body washes  that will pamper my skin and keep me moisturized for longer.

Voting for my Local Park to Win a $100K Grant

Helping My Favorite Park Win a $100K Grant

Remember the Coca-Cola America Is Your Park campaign? I've been doing my best to help my favorite local park garner as many votes as possible. One thing is for sure, every vote counts if I'm to help my park win that $100,000 grant. Last year, park supporters cast more than 13 million votes for their favorite parks, and do you know who won? Oak Park in the small town of Minot, ND!
